Kids… they do make news, don’t they

Posted by: inbavalli on: December 9, 2007

I am a lazy bum. And that applies to my blogging as well. But these two blog posts and the accompanying furor have me here again, digging out my login name and asking WordPress to supply me with a new password  I would rather have written on the comment sections of other bloggers and been done with it but I do have a lot to say and it wouldn’t be fair to hog others’ blog space.

To start with, I feel extremely sorry for the mummy bloggers. I mean, they have given birth to adorable kids and taken to writing about them. So what’s their crime? Why is the world and its aunt heaping shit on them? Of course, there might be an occasional reference to poo and puke but which mother has not spent a good portion of her early motherhood worrying precisely about these? I, for one, did.

And eczema? Please! I’ve suffered it as a child and I know what a trauma it is for the child and the mother. If a food blogger can use the medium to find out the precise number of cashew nuts to be added to 100 gm of halwa, why can’t a young mother seek help to battle a nagging health condition of her child? Tell me, if it were your child’s eczema would you be using it as a joke?

What variety entertainment do people expect in a mummy blog? I feel singularly bored when I chance to visit a tech blog, most probably via Google. What do I do? Poke fun of techies for writing stuff that I neither understand nor appreciate?

Ok, so you dislike mummy blogs and choose to say so in what is very much your space. But why target a specific blogger?

And now my plea to mummy bloggers: My children and I adore your babies. In fact, my son jokes that I’m more fond of the Bean than him and his sis (he may have a point – when my kids were babies I was so busy ‘mothering’ them that I hardly got to enjoy them).

Which is why all this talk of lurking pedophiles frightens me. I would hate to think that any of your babies might be targeted by the scum of the earth. Yeah, all this danger-lurks-at-park-school-apartment argument is correct. But still…

This maanga person has no business saying what he did. But look at it this way — he’s just SAYING something and we are all disgusted and angry. Just imagine somebody actually DOING it with our kids’ pics. Pretty horrifying. So what if we never get to know about it. Isn’t the very idea sickening?

Please don’t give me the line on kids being used in movies and ads. I’m dead against that, too. Had I been a politician or an activist I might have been more vociferous about it. We condemn child labor at Sivakasi match factories but allow kids to act in movies, commercials and serials. Doesn’t the latter amount to lost childhood, too?

Well, I’m digressing. Yeah, the point is, please don’t stop writing about your kids. And do think twice about the photos.

Very very well written, THIS is the post Sowmya should’ve written but did not. Attacking the mommy bloggers snidely while making some point seemed totally off !

Thank you for writing this balanced post.

Welcome, Poppins Mom :)

Very well written – and nicely too! Yes, I am more willing to see the other person’s point of view when I don’t feel like I am being attacked for the choices I make :)

Like Sujatha said, live and let live. When you have time, check our Amrita’s point of view: http://indiequill.wordpress.com/2007/12/08/outing-bloggers/
I like the way you have made your point without casting blame or throwing stones. Why are you a sporadic blogger??

Thanks, Desigirl — for dropping in and saying nice things :-) I’m a regular reader of your blog and a kind word from you is very encouraging. Yes, I blog sporadically because I’m lazy, as I’ve said so eloquently in this post ;-)

very interesting, but I don’t agree with you

Cee Kay: Welcome, and yes, politeness does have a certain force.

Idetrorce: Welcome to my blog. Could you please tell me what you don’t agree with?
