Why I hate RSS feeds…

…Mainly because I feel they are meant for lazy people. I’m very lazy. But why should a software leverage that and make me worse than what I already am?

“We track your favorite news, blogs, weather, and classifieds so that you don’t have to,” says the Bloglines RSS page very helpfully. But I intensely dislike the concept of all the news I require been dumped into my folder. Like food packets in a refugee camp.

A tiger enjoys hunting for its food. Trail the deer, ambush, plunge! I’m pretty sure said tiger wouldn’t appreciate door delivery from Subway on a daily basis.

I’m no tiger but I do miss the news hunt. I miss having to hop from one web site to another, snooping around for news that matters to me. A link here, a peep there, a url mailed by a colleague, some important article spotted buried under a pile of useless new items… Oh! The pleasure of ‘locating’ news is immeasurable. At times, on ‘spotting’ a piece of info, I feel like a snoopy journo who has just landed a scoop.

Now here comes the worst part. I crib about RSS feeds routinely and use it routinely. Time constraints, work pressure, fear of missing out on news, the works. Plus it’s there, therefore.

But I draw the line at RSS feeds for my favorite blogs. I hop, skip and jump from one blog to another, a hazaar questions popping into my mind. Did Ashu say doo again? Is MM saying mean things about the Bean’s hair? So which news article has Shyamala seeing red? Isn’t the K-Peanut combo hilarious? Krish has worked on Web 2.0 of which rib

I blog-surf for the sheer pleasure of it and no nosy software is going to spoil the fun for me.
