• How I wish they would serve the above menu at feasts. Who says feasts need to be pulses- and coconut-laden?
• Those who haven’t eaten this don’t know what they’re missing in life.
• The person who formulated rasam and did not bother to patent it is God’s greatest gift to mankind.
• If I had to go off rice for more than two days I would die or at least go into depression.
• I would rather suffer weight-related illnesses than depression or anorexia.
• No, a middle ground does not exist.
I always keep saying bullets 3, 4 and 5!
Rasam, mmmmm.

P.s: first time here.. had to comment on a foodie post !
Never tasted the first one Peerkang thogayal..Rice n rasam are seriously magical, anything goes with them…appalam or any koottu or even pickle for that matter
Oddly enough, I got to make pooshanikkai kootu the other day – a VERY RARE opportunity for me because I dont get it at all except if I go to Wembley, London, and thence to a Sri Lankan grocery shop. What I mean to say is, I love it and could eat it all day… but rare as it is for me, it’s still home food, not kalyana sappadu
If I didnt find fried stuff at kalyana lunjes and speshul feasts, I would be VERY disappointed! That said, NICE home food menu, bar the rasam bit. I’m a kozhambu fan, me.
I love this post!!!!!!
I call myself “sothu pattarai”.
It’s the sole reason I haven’t been able to reduce weight. Heck, I have even stopped trying to lose weight.

hi, I must say , your blog is so simple yet so captivating. Your subtle sense of humour, your fears, your anxieties you have captured in words so marvellously…
I am a fan of your blog now onwards…

You know, after a month of rigorous weight loss programme (diet, yoga, exercise, coupled with chronic hunger and body ache), I totally agree.
